Hi hello! Welcome to my bog. Not blog, like people keep insinuating. I have no idea where that notion came from.
This month, a piece of my music appeared in a video game, I discovered the whimsy and fortude of wallpaper samples, and I'm starting work on a new short-story-project-thing!
My music is in a video game?!?
An ADOFAI level containing one of my songs is officially getting featured! So, yeah!
For those out of the loop, A Dance of Fire and Ice (shortened to ADOFAI) is a rhythm game created by 7th Beat Games. You basically control two colourful balls and have to press a button whenever they land on a square, which is normally synced up to really cool music.
A while ago, my friend Teoc reached out to me to adapt the Everypence story into ADOFAI. They used the music I had created to make custom ADOFAI levels, and redrew all of the cutscenes from the original levelpack in their own style.
Watch a preview of the first level here!
The developers liked one of these levels so much that they decided to spotlight it on the Featured Levels tab in-game! The level, The Temple of Treasure, will be seen and played by tons more people than it otherwise would, which is honestly amazing. And since it features my music, it'll hopefully draw a few eyes my way too :)
You can download the entire Everypence ADOFAI series here, or check it out on YouTube here. I highly recommend at least a passing glance, because the whole project is awesome and incredibly well-made - Teoc did a fantastic job translating the story into the new format.
Wallpaper? In My Sketchbook?
It's more likely than you think.
Recently, I got my hands on a couple of wallpaper sample books that contain little snippets of wallpaper patterns. While they're definitely intended for more practical uses, they're really fun to cut up and use as little splashes of colour on a page! They're even good for drawing on!
Here's a few examples (it's mostly doodles, so the quality of the drawings themselves are not that great lol):
This is also a good time to show off my updated Hazel Hotel Guys List, which uses this same wallpaper trick!
Relatedly, I've been slowly adding character pages to the Hazel Hotel section of this website, but it'll be a long while before I'm done. (As of writing, we're only up to Tomtom's page.) Just look at how many guys there are!
A New Project
A lot of my free time is currently going towards a new project I've yet to mention anywhere - a short-ish story told through fragments of an abandoned Wiki! It's a bit of a puzzle to read; you have to piece together information from previous pages in order to access new URLs and progress through the story.
I don't think this concept has really been explored much anywhere else online (at least, from what I was able to glean from 3 pages of Google). Hopefully that's not because the concept sucks LOL, we'll see. The story I have in mind is pretty unconventional and I'm hoping the general "weirdness" of it will be enough to offset any qualms people might have with the format.
That's everything I'm willing to share about the project right now - I'd rather keep the juicy stuff a surprise until it's closer to completion!
That's It
I'm not sure whether this is too short for a blog post. Maybe I'll try something longer next time, unless that seems like a really terrible idea??
